Envirohistory NZ
On Kiwiology since: February 2nd, 2010This site stems from the recognition that to understand the environmental issues we are facing today, it is essential to understand our environmental past - the way the environmental once was, the way we have transformed it, and the implications these human interventions have. Through short essays, random thoughts, discussion, links to research, articles, other sites and resources, this site aims to stimulate discussion and exploration of the way we relate to our environment through history.

The Third Option
On Kiwiology since: February 2nd, 2010This blog was launched on 23 August this year, 2 days after the Transport Minister Steven Joyce announced that a 4-lane expressway would be built through Kapiti, destroying between 200 and 400 homes. One or two of us didn’t like that idea very much, and launched this site.

Chthonic Wildlife Ramblings
On Kiwiology since: January 31st, 2008Reflections of a heterodox conservationist.
“This site largely reflects my interest in wildlife and its conservation, and tends to have an NZ and Australian focus. I tend to have a fairly pragmatic view towards conservation- and have often ended up playing with the less iconic species- crocodiles, creepy-crawlies etc.”

Quieter Please!
On Kiwiology since: December 10th, 2007This blog covers the issues of Noise Pollution and a disenfranchised community in Christchurch.
“In 1999 , without consideration for,or consultation with, any of the many hundreds of residents living within earshot of Ruapuna the Christchurch City Council gave the Powerbuilt Ruapuna Raceway permission to operate 365 days a year. At the same time it allowed them to more than double their noise levels.”
“The Solution is an invention as old as the Motor Vehicle - THE MUFFLER. Their noise is optional - having to listen to it all day isn’t.”

Eco-Centric
On Kiwiology since: November 10th, 2007To Matthew and Natalie Cutler-Welsh, ‘eco’ isn’t just a prefix meaning ‘going without’ - it’s about being cool, credible and life-enhancing. It’s about doing their best, not just their bit, for the environment. This blog aims to fuel discussion on the way we live our eco-lives.

Prayingmantis - green thoughts
On Kiwiology since: November 5th, 2007A weblog devoted to Mother Earth.
Prayingmantis is a place to discuss Green issues and build a Green community, free from the control of any political party and remembering always that we are a part of Mother Earth. Social issues are important, but the core issue of environmental respect for the Earth must be paramount.
The name prayingmantis was selected to convey both greenness and a sense of devotion to Mother Earth. If successful, in time prayingmantis could evolve further to become an effective lobby group for environmental respect.
